There are several issues that need to be discussed regarding the LEON Website:

  • The content needed to be updated
  • The site needed to incorporate the new logo design
  • It needed to be a lot easier for members to use and contribute
  • Finally, the hosting and domain name are due to expire March 13, 2010.
(see attachment 27303.pdf).  Ray experienced may difficulties with the current hosting provider when trying to back-up the existing databases and upgrading to a newer version of the CMS service.  The host provider Interactive Online stated in an email that they do not provide database migration services or support system-wide back-ups without upgrading to a dedicated server rate at over $100 per month. Ray has offered to move the existing site to his shared hosting server at cost of  $5.95 per month x 12 months = $71.40 (no taxes). The primary justification for this is total access and control of all database files and control of domain https://leongroup.org. Former LEON President Humerto Gonzalez still has transfer authority.

The goal of the site is to:

  • Serve not only as a source of information to its members but to
  • Be a portal to the local community
  • To provide membership with an outlet (a benefits of membership) for sharing job postings, assist in recruitments, volunteer and philanthropic efforts.
  • Connect the membership (networking)
  • Provide an outlet to its members to share (POST) important announcements
  • Be a record of LEON activities, documenting the history of the organization and keeping members connected to the ongoing events, meeting notes and agendas of LEON

Currently, the site has gone unchanged for over a year. Members have expressed difficulty in being able to access information stating that it was too intimidating for them to use.  There has been little success in getting members to manage the site content or generate new initiatives to create new content.

As a result, Ray has been re-hired to come up with a newer solution to the site that fulfill the purpose and meet the needs of the membership.

This 3rd edition of the LEON website is based on a much cleaner design with an easier management interface that the previous design. The back-end management tools are very similar to a basic word processor in design.

The administration of the site “contract” was initially limited to three months of which Ray has completed his obligations to redesign and upgrade the design. There has been no new content submitted during this time frame and further information is still needed to complete updates including all minutes from the past year(s), image archives, original graphic files for the new logo, etc.2010
