LEON in the Community The first Thursday of each month, LEON and other community members meet and share information about a number of issues concerning the Latino community. The first hour, from 9-10 a.m., includes a formal member and board meeting. The second hour, from 10-11 a.m., is open for community announcements and introductions. Often individuals exchange information about recent notices and events. Check back in September for listings in our events calendar. Below are just some of the annual events that LEON members are actively involved with.
Annual LEON Awards DinnerMore than 15 individuals were recognized at the annual LEON community and leadership awards dinner, held February 6, 2004, at the Four Seasons Conference Center in Hilliard. The dinner is an annual event to honor community members who have given of their time and heart to the Latino community.
The Hispanic WalkathonThe National Hispanic Scholarship Fund hosted a walkathon May 1 to raise money to help send Ohio Latino youth to college. Spearheaded by Ramona Reyes, senior marketing analyst of diverse markets for Nationwide Insurance, the walkathon raised thousands of dollars for Latino teens. LEON members helped support the walkathon by helping to spread the word -- and walking. The walkathon was held as part of Dia de Los Ninos (Children’s Day), an annual community event for families at Cooper Stadium.
Columbus Latino FestivalLEON featured an information booth at the Latino Festival held June 18 and 19th, 2004. The Latino Festival is an annual event in downtown Columbus.
